What You Want to
Know
Meet Remington aka 'Remi', a very handsome 2 year old beagle / basset hound
mix with a touch of terrier giving him a happy bounce when he walks. Remington's
current foster family was looking for a foster dog who would be out of the
puppy stage of chewing but young enough to handle the often busy
household. Remington's description at a southern Indiana Humane Society
caught their attention. It read he was good with other dogs and cats,
and that they could find no vices with him. His sweet temperament won
him a spot on the rescue up north where he arrived to his current foster
family. Remi arrived to a home
full of dogs, and it is true that he gets along with everyone
splendidly. He doesn't bother the older dogs and is completely
submissive to the German Shepherd mix in the home. He is also
submissive to the 55 lb 8 month old puppy in the house and the two of them
love to romp harmlessly outside. Remi was an outside dog prior
to coming up north so he is learning about the sounds in the home as well as
proper dog behavior. He loves playing outside but inside he was taught
from day one that there is no roughhousing inside the home. He was taught
all about how soft dog beds are and that he can bring a toy over to entertain
himself which he does just fine now. With several other dogs in the
home, he has plenty of good examples of what is and what isn't allowed.
Remi also lives with 4
children and it is their toys that seem to be everywhere at times but Remi hasn't bothered any of them. He likes a rope
toy and the occasional Kong, especially if it is stuffed with a treat!
He adores the children and has the hound personality that makes these breeds
such great family pets. He is learning basic obedience commands and
takes to training with alert eyes. He knows how to 'sit' and will wait
for the 'take' command before taking his treat. With the command 'go to
bed', he knows to go in his crate where he finds a treat waiting for
him. Remi's natural love of being
with his people will make him a great family dog. It doesn't matter
what the weather is, he will happily follow after the kids. He has a
short, easy-to-care-for coat that is looking good despite the muddy
yard. His foster family has had Remi a short
while but already sees the intelligence in him. This intelligence is
making training much easier than anticipated. With the nice weather, Remi has had a chance to try out some dog agility equipment.
He can go through a tire and is doing very well with learning how to weave in
and out of the poles. It appears that Remi is housebroken and he has not had any accidents
since his first day in the home. With the other dogs, he certainly
seems to know where he should use the bathroom and will go to the backdoor to
alert his family. He does not bother the cat in the home who
has rubbed up against Remi several
times. The cat often sleeps on his crate and Remi
pays him no attention. He shows no signs of food guarding or
nuisance barking. Remington is crated while his family is away and also
at night. He seems just fine sleeping through the night so it may not
be necessary to do it at night much longer. Remington is neutered and heartworm
negative. He is up to date on his shots including bordetella and
rabies. His adoption fee is $175. Prior to meeting Remington, a
phone interview is necessary. His foster mom Mary has some questions to
ask and is ready to answer any questions. Please call 630-585-7927 to
find out if Remi is a good match for your family. |
